Rose has also spent a great deal of time representing people whose cases have involved significant constitutional questions or controversial progressive political issues. His clients have included peace activists, anti-nuclear protestors, environmentalists, marijuana law reformers, American Indian Movement leaders and initiative petition circulators. While on the faculty of the University of Oregon Law School, he taught a seminar on the law of political protest. He has spoken widely to professional and civic organizations and continuing legal education seminars, on topics ranging from First Amendment issues to DUII defense, and is known for his creative motion practice. Presently, his practice focuses on post-conviction relief, criminal appeals, criminal, DUII and traffic defense at the trial level and, in traffic and DUII cases, appearances before DMV. Because of his long experience in litigating constitutional issues, he also works on the firm's civil rights and discrimination cases. He is a life member, former Board of Directors member and past President of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and, since 1999, has been editor and co-author of the Criminal Law Formbook (OCDLA). Michael, married, with two dogs, is an accomplished photographer and cook, a barely adequate, but avid, guitarist, and a lover of music.
